[size=12]Hallo all SWHA residents,
I wanted to offer yet another warning on murchandise being delivered to your front door step. I often have numerous medical supplies as well as general murchandise delivered to my front door step without requiring a signature. I have been doing so for over 5 years without incident.

However, last Thursday (Jan. 29) I had two deliveries that were apparently stolen. One was placed under my door mat (FedEx) while the other was too large thus was placed onto the side (UPS). Neither was there when I arrived home by 6PM. Subsequent tracking showed delivery times and placement details, thus the delivery companies said they were "off the hook." I have in the past requested that they place packages on my back porch, but to no avail.

Although I often have Prospect High students wandering by, I doubt that they would be the culprits. If they opened my medical stuff and found it useless, they would have thrown it aside down the street (I've seen evidence of such actions before). I canvased Cabernet Drive and chatted with neighbors but came up empty handed. I suspect that with the current economic times that someone may be trailing behind the delivery trucks looking for easy marks. I unfortunately have become one of them.

I will now instruct any deliveries to be held at their respective depots, awaiting my signiture. I strongly suggest you do the same! It is sad to see this occur, along with the need for locking mailboxes, but I guess this is simply a sign of the times. Hopefully this will not become the norm. Alas...

All the best, Jack

Jack,

Sorry to hear that. I work from home but travel quite a bit. A few years ago, I signed up for a UPS Store mailbox. It was primarily for my business mail and to keep my home address somewhat shielded, but I selected that private mailbox and not a US Post Office box for the reason that the private UPS Store will accept and sign for mail from any and all carriers. The USPS will not. So, I send most deliveries, business or personal, to that address which I check a couple of times a week. They also now automatically send me an email when a package has arrived. There's an annual fee, but for me it works well. Mine is up in Saratoga Village, but there are closer locations over at Westgate.

Regards,

Ron
